Saeed Ajmal has contract suspended after outburst
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday suspended Saeed Ajmal’s contract following the spinner’s recent outburst about the testing procedures for suspect actions where he accused the ICC of double standards.
“Why just target the off-spinners?”Ajmal asked in interviews with Zainab Abbas on Dunya News and with Geo Super”.
Earlier, Ajmal claimed that the PCB left him and no board officials kept any contact with him when he was reported for illegal action.
Despite not being selected since April this year, Ajmal was retained in the “B” category in PCB central contracts.
According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the PCB has taken a lenient action against the 38-year-old off-break bowler by suspending the contract and holding monthly retainer.
He also questioned Harbhajan Singh’s bowling action, saying the Indian spinner will exceed the 15 degrees limit if test a is conducted.
However, a remodelled action rendered him ineffective and he was not selected for the current series against England.
Reacting to Ajmal’s remarks, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan stated that he was disappointed with the 38-year-old’s stance as the PCB had done everything in their power to help him get out of the troubled period, which included the appointment of legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq to work with the 38-year-old to remodel his action.
Ajmal has not played for Pakistan since April when he took one wicket in two ODIs against Bangladesh and was also wicketless in a T20.
“We did everything we could to help him and support him because he has been a top player for Pakistan”, he added.
Ajmal appearing on a television channel recently criticised the ICC’s policy on bowling actions and accused the body of double standards.
In a bid to regain his form, Ajmal played first-class cricket for Worcestershire but had a disappointing outing after picking up just 16 wickets from eight matches at an average of 55.62.
