Safety concerns on Chicago-bound plane prompts evacuation in Baltimore
Authorities say four people were removed from a Chicago-bound plane at Baltimore-Washington global Thurgood Marshall Airport at the captain’s request.
A woman got up and went to the back of the plane with a small child as the plane was preparing for takeoff, said WJLA, an ABC affiliate. Responding to the concern, the flight crew chose to return to the gate “out of an abundance of caution”, the Baltimore Sun added.
Citing flight-tracking data, the Post said Flight 2124 left National two hours late at 5:30 p.m., and arrived at the Logan global Airport gate at 6:43 p.m.
Green said no arrests have been made, but that the individuals were being interviewed. While the rest of the 115 passengers boarded the plane, D.C. Police grilled the two passengers before releasing them.
“All passengers were deplaned while the K9 swept the aircraft and did not detect any abnormalities”, the spokesperson told CBS News. He said he did not know whether they chose to continue their journey. He said officials returned to remove the fourth person, a man.
Now, officials are tasked with figuring out if the supposedly suspicious passengers were up to something or were the subject of a misunderstanding.
The flight re-boarded and will continue to Boston as initially planned.
WBAL-TV reports as of noon today, one of the three men detained by police has been questioned and released.
In the aftermath of the Paris Attacks and the airline crash in Egypt, airport authorities have beefed up their security measures, which are being reevaluated by US officials.
“Unfortunately, I think we’re going to see more and more of this”, he told the British newspaper following Tuesday’s incident.
