Saints coach Payton: Drew Brees day-to-day with foot injury
He completed 21 of 31 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns in the second half.
New Orleans responded with Brees’ 27-yard touchdown to Cooks and further closed the gap on Kai Forbath’s field goal after the Lions made a stop on third-and-goal from the 4.
On the day after their post-season hopes were officially extinguished, the New Orleans Saints’ miserable season continued.
Brees was hurt during the second quarter of Monday night’s 35-27 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Manning has missed the past five games with his injury and may eventually need surgery.
The Saints declined to comment on ESPN’s report Tuesday.
On the final play of the half, Brees connected with wide receiver Colston in the end zone, but guard Jahri Evans was flagged for being downfield illegally, and with no time left on the clock, the half ended. Manning, 38, saw the same doctor as Brees (Dr. Robert Anderson) and is uncertain as to whether he will make a return either this season or at any point in the future.
Early in the first half, Brees was flushed out of the pocket and as he threw the ball, he was tackled awkwardly by Lions defender Ziggy Ansah. Brees now has 60,168 yards for his 15-year career. He’s started 98 straight games, a league-high among safeties. The Saints shouldn’t waste two of them.
Running back Tim Hightower scored on a 1-yard plunge, but it was erased by an illegal formation penalty.
She also said that the tickets were not tickets given to players’ families, and that she did not profit off of them.
The Saints asserted that Kelemete reported on the play before he was penalized and should not have had to report again. The only penalty is when they freeze a kicker. Only, the Lions had already used all three of their timeouts.
Incredibly durable in his decade with the Saints, Brees has faced two serious injuries this season, a campaign that has been played under the constant hum of speculation that New Orleans might trade the face of the franchise this offseason. Two years ago, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham suffered a partial tear of the plantar fascia – the flat band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot from heel to toe – and continued playing, competing in all 16 games that year.
Players can play, and have played, through partial tears like this-it depends on the severity and on their pain tolerance. Brandin Cooks caught 10 passes for 124 yards with a 27-yard TD, while Willie Snead had 10 grabs for 76 yards. On fourth down, Brees scrambled before finding Marques Colston…at the 1-yard line. Saints lead series 3-2.
In the first eight games this season, Stafford completed 64.3 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Stafford had a long gain of 45 yards to Eric Ebron, who finished with four receptions for 79 yards.
