Saints’ Drew Brees day-to-day with torn plantar fascia

The Lions surged into a 28-3 lead only for the Saints – on the back of a pair of Drew Brees touchdown passes – to get back to 28-20 with around 10 minutes left.

The Saints’ No. 2 quarterback the last four games has been Matt Flynn, an eight-year veteran who hasn’t thrown a pass this season, but has started seven National Football League games and has passed for 2,541 yards and 17 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions, in his career.

Ameer Abdullah and Joique Bell each ran for more than 70 yards and each scored a touchdown. But again, I’ll reiterate the fact that since I’ve been here, Drew hadn’t missed a game except for the Carolina game this year.

“But we have to be more consistent just like every other team in the NFL”.

Cooks made a spectacular one-handed catch that looked like it would be a touchdown, but the play was overturned when replays showed his knee was down at the Lions’ 1 before he crossed the plane of the goal line. New Orleans responded with Brees’ 27-yard touchdown to Cooks and further closed the gap on Kai Forbath’s field goal after the Lions made a stop on a third-and-goal from the 4.

Afterwards, Brees said he didn’t quite know what was going on, but did acknowledge that the injury was to his foot, not his ankle.

Sharp hardly begins to describe Stafford’s performance Monday night as he finished with the most efficient game of his career, going 22 of 25 for 254 yards and three touchdowns.

Like I always say, anybody that’s on our list, if he’s on the list, there’s certainly a chance of that.

When asked for injury updates on Ziggy Ansah and Quin at his normal day after game press conference, Jim Caldwell was predictably short – particularly as it pertained to Quin’s status.

The loss assured the Saints (5-9) of their second consecutive losing season for the first time since the Mike Ditka era (1998-99). Tate was his main target with six receptions and two touchdowns, but he only totaled 45 yards. Hightower did have a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter, but it was wiped out because extra tight end Senio Kelemete failed to report in as an eligible receiver. Meanwhile, Lance Moore also had one catch, which gained 10 yards.

Injury update: Safety Glover Quin suffered a concussion in the second quarter and left the game. The Lions will host the 49ers (1:00 PM ET on FOX), while the Saints will get the incoming Jaguars (4:05 PM ET on CBS).
