Saints offense shines in win over Jaguars
The New Orleans Saints final game of the season is next Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the team who spoiled the Carolina Panthers flawless season, as CDA News reported earlier today.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, despite being listed as questionable with a torn plantar fascia, will start Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The Saints are one of the worst pass defenses in the league this season with an average of 276 yards to opposing quarterbacks this season.
If this was supposed to be a track meet between two teams struggling on defense, the Jaguars offense was still sitting in the starting blocks. “It has its challenges”, Brees said earlier this week.
“I thought he was unbelievable”, Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles said. “I didn’t have any doubt that he would come out and have a great game”. They had to know, right? But Brees hardly looked fazed.
At this point in the season, the Saints focus isn’t on winning, which means that players with potentially uncertain futures become the focus, and this can be said for backup running backs Hightower and C.J. New Orleans Saints defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-17. He amassed 122 rushing yards on 27 carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns as he helped lead his team to victory.
Bortles’ numbers were pretty against the Saints, as they should have been. It produced tangible results, so why hasn’t the defense and the team as a whole (as seen below)? There is no anticipated change in the game plan, but Brees’ mobility will be a concern similar to the last game against the Detroit Lions. Brees’ college success also got Olson into the NFL.
This game really comes down to the health of Brees. With 73 seconds left, the Jaguars found the endzone again as Bortles hit Hurns for another score.
Brandin Cooks caught a 71-yard touchdown pass to highlight his 123 yards receiving, which gave him more than 1,000 yards this season.
Bortles’ TD strikes included a 90-yarder to Allen Robinson. From there they moved the ball down the field and capped off am eight play, 80 yard drive with a two-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Lee.
On the game’s opening drive, facing fourth-and-5 from the Jacksonville 43-yard line, he hooked up with Cooks on a 23-yard catch-and-run.
Sunday, he took aim at Jacksonville’s secondary and recorded his 13 game of 400 or more passing yards, tied with Dan Marino for second all-time behind Peyton Manning’s 14.
When Jacksonville scored its first touchdown, Brees drove the Saints into field-goal territory to end the half, even though Forbath missed the kick. Posluszny is making his case to stick around longer than some fans may be happy with. Tye has double-digit fantasy points in every game over his past four games. However, their effort in the first half would have made you think that they were pushed to watch the Texans vs. Titans with their eye lids being forced open like Alex from “A Clockwork Orange”.
“We have to find out what we’re asking out of positions”, Bradley said. Will the Jaguars place Yeldon and/or Telvin Smith on injured reserve to elevate some practice squad guys? And to get a pass rush, they’ll need better players.
LT Terron Armstead (knee) was held out of practice Thursday, but likely will play Sunday against the Jaguars.
