Saints Reportedly Want 2nd Round Pick For Payton
“From what I’m told, the meeting between Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis is over”.
There’s a carnival taking place. However, like New Orleans, the defense is what let NY down this year. In my mind, the Indianapolis Colts are the only team that might offer Payton a clear reason to leave – and that’s Andrew Luck.
“With four guys on one side of the ball to maintain kind of that status, for 10 years in one place, that’s really hard to do, especially in this day and age”.
What does Payton want?
Fired last week before he could complete his third seasons as the Philadlephia Eagles coach. That, for me, as you get older, one of the things that comes with the aging process, as people say, is that you’re not going to recover as fast. His best season was 2009 when the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV.
Does defensive end Cam Jordan have a better feel for the situation?
Draft picks will be worked in, free agents will be signed, undrafted rookies will make the roster and players will be released due to performance or salary cap ramifications.
But, Payton didn’t speak with reporters.
There had been conflicting reports this afternoon on just how interested the Eagles were in Pederson.
“I think we know this – we’ve got great decision-makers in this organization, from Sean all of the way up to (General Manager) Mickey (Loomis) to (Saints owner) Mr. (Tom) Benson”.
That’s the very-specific tag attached to Payton’s price per Glazer, meaning it’s totally possible the Saints would be willing to take that and send their coach somewhere else.
There’s still as much of a possibility that Payton stays as that he goes.
FOX Sports and NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported that the team could be seeking a second-rounder for Payton. He was 19-26 overall in two-plus seasons with the Chiefs. The New Orleans front office and Payton have both been mum on the issue to this point. He has National Football League coaching experience with the Eagles (1997), Raiders (1998-2001) and Ravens (2002-05).
That trade, however, came after Gruden led Oakland to a conference title game, and Tampa Bay was in desperate need of a coach after being rebuffed by others. This and more explains why every team with a coaching vacancy is drooling over trading for him.
More often, the compensation is much lower. He held the same position in NY for the Giants and in Dallas before joining New Orleans as their head coach in 2006.
The season is not even 24 hours from its completion for the Eagles, and they have already been linked to a handful of potential coaching candidates to fill the void left by Chip Kelly.
Following Sunday’s win over the Falcons, Payton cut his postgame news conference short when questioned about his plans.
