Saints set for Caulker loan
Southampton have announced the season-long loan signing of defender Steven Caulker, who moves to St Mary’s Stadium from recently relegated QPR.
The 23-year-old signed for the Super Hoops last summer but is keen for a short-term move back to the Premier League following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Caulker only joined QPR at the start of last season for a fee of around £8million and while the club endured a hard campaign, the defender was one of the better performers.
Queens Park Rangers reportedly strike a deal with Southampton to send Steven Caulker on loan to the Saints for the 2015-16 season.
Ronald Koeman is still interested in Celtic’s Virgil Van Dijk, regardless of a deal for Caulker, and could step up his interest in the Dutch defender with Jose Fonte and Maya Yoshida the only fit first team centre-backs at the club.
However in a surprise turn of events, it seems very likely that Caulker will now be joining Southampton.
“As soon as I got the phone call to say a fee was agreed with Southampton, I was delighted to get the opportunity to come and play under a great manager. I’m very excited for the season ahead”.
