Saints take cornerback Lattimore 11th overall in NFL draft
The Saints, and the NFL, made a huge gaff during round one of the NFL Draft. In 2016, he had 4 interceptions and 9 passes defensed.
At 6-foot-6, 310 pounds Ramcyzk is surprisingly explosive off the line.
Lattimore battled hamstring injuries his first two seasons at Ohio State, but when he’s healthy he’s considered an elite athlete.
New Orleans used a picture of Ohio State linebacker Raekwon McMillan instead of a picture of Lattimore himself.
What are you feeling like after being drafted with the emotion you displayed on camera from the draft? He’s a terrific talent, who was viewed by nearly everybody as the top cornerback in the draft; one that could be a “shutdown” corner, in time. At our bowl game, I talked with [Dallas Cowboys center] Travis Frederick, so a little bit of communication there.
So, again, I don’t know. It’s always interesting to see which guys stand out, and it’s always fun to watch when those players are future Buckeyes. I’m a team player. “I’ll set that side up”. In the first two, he was plagued by hamstring injuries.
In 2016, the Saints selected wide receiver Michael Thomas and safety Vonn Bell in the second round.
What’s your reaction to coming to New Orleans? Occasionally over-sets to his left, leaving too much room between himself and the guard. “That’s what we play at Ohio State, so I feel like I can fit into that well”. You could just tell the kid was special and why he was such a coveted recruit.
Lattimore helped the Buckeyes’ secondary emerge as one of the most dominating units in the NCAA last season. “I have been watching the draft, and seeing those guys walk the stage. I can learn and adapt”.
The trade increased the number of Saints third-round picks to three.
The 27-year-old corner wasn’t eligible to get traded at the time because he was a restricted free agent who hadn’t signed his contract tender. “It’s all a learning process and I’m ready to do it”. “But that was one day in the young man’s life”.
“I’m physical and can tackle as well as cover and press”.
“I’m a pretty good tackler and I don’t miss many tackles”, he said. Possibly still looking to prove himself, McKinley will be looking to contribute to the Saints early. I go about my business in the right away. Lattimore said he, as well, expected to be taken higher, but added, “It’s all good”. I am not anxious about it.
The New Orleans Saints continue to downplay their chances of getting New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler.
The big question here is why the Saints would pass up the available talent at their bigger positions of need on defense.
Are there any guys in the National Football League from Wisconsin that you leaned on during this process? He gets a terrific jam at the line of scrimmage to disrupt routes early and he knows how to squeeze routes to make it hard on the receiver to create leverage. Mickey Loomis or Sean Payton?
“For some of our fans, probably (they’ll) pause for a second”, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said.
What did they have to say? I like to prove people wrong. Tackle is not a pressing need on the surface, but current RT Zach Strief will turn 34 in September while LT Terron Armstead has never played more than 14 games. “I haven’t had a ton of contact with them, but I was keeping my hopes alive, anything could happen, and then sure enough I got the call”.
You don’t have a nickname do you? “We value his speed, he’s got tremendous ball skills and there were a number of things that (we liked)”.
