Saints To Release CB Keenan Lewis
Multiple reports indicate the team has cut ties with cornerback Keenan Lewis.
Lewis is a born and raised New Orleanian, who prepped at O. Perry Walker High School (now Landry Walker High School).
More surprising is releasing Lewis only freed up $850K in cap space, making the move more about his potential to rebound from his nagging hip injury. Lewis was activated from the physically unable to perform list early in training camp.
Lewis had been battling knee and hip injuries since last season.
In an Instagram post, Lewis indicated he would try to play for another National Football League team.
During his time in New Orleans, Lewis was the teams top cornerback, and most times, the only true shut-down corner that the team had.
Lewis signed a 5 year, $25. The Saints also added veteran Cortland Finnegan this offseason.
The challenge facing this young secondary is enormous considering the Who’s Who lineup of elite quarterbacks they’ll be facing this season, most notably Eli Manning, Matt Ryan (twice), Jameis Winston (twice), Philip Rivers, Cam Newton (twice), Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford and Carson Palmer.
New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis posted a message on his Instagram account that seemed to suggest his time with the team was coming to an end.
