Salvation Army red kettles return to area
“It helped me in an incredible way because for the last few years I’ve been going through a couple of things and this is a great thing at this time…so its been unbelievable for me”, Shanita Johnson, a family member in need.
Many of you may be cooking a Thanksgiving meal for family on Thanksgiving Day- imagine if you were expecting hundreds of guests. “This year if we can hit the $200,000, I feel like we’ll be able to get through all of 2016 without any financial speed bumps”, Steele said.
As part of the Red Kettle campaign kick off, the Salvation Army handed out food baskets, complete with the ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner, to families who applied for assistance.
“We will also be providing a Christmas Day meal for those who would otherwise be on their own”.
Monday through Friday the Salvation Army serves breakfast and lunch.
“Thank you, that’s all I can say”, he said.
“We changed our strategy of how we give out toys by allowing the parents to choose the toys for their children”, said Kim.
And while most people will be celebrating with their families this coming Thursday, Lena Reyes says the people who showed up tonight are her family. “It’s nice for them to have a place to go”. As we head into the busy season you’ll hear the bells ringing for the Red Kettles and see the Angel Trees at area businesses.
“We really want to have a good start”, Enrique said.
The Thanksgiving Luncheon is just one of the many projects the Salvation Army puts together for community during the Holiday season.
