“It’s wonderful to help people”, she said.
“At least 80 percent of all money given locally stays locally, so it helps us to serve these here in Oktibbeha County and the surround counties that we also serve”, Walker said.
The Salvation Army says there is a desperate need for donated toys, especially for teens.
“We have turkey, we have stuffing, gravy, giblet gravy sweet potato souffle”, he said.
The Salvation Army/EasternCourier Christmas Appeal is seeking donations.
Major Bruce Mac Kenzie, core officer at the Salvation Army’s Haven of Hope, was there for the launch.
Moskal was in attendance with about 450 other people at the annual Salvation Army Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Bay County Community Center on the city’s West Side. “It’s a great opportunity to me as a parent to instill that into my children”.
Johnson and her children had been homeless for seven months before she walked into the Salvation Army East City Corps.
“Just being out and the bells, it’s just kind of festive and the generosity of folks, as you give them a smile, a hello, or a merry Christmas, it’s pretty neat”, said Matt Glatz. If you have children, grandchildren or children you support, think of what they might like in their Christmas stocking and consider buying an extra present and donating it.
We have people who will not have anybody to come home for Thanksgiving and may not have the funds to have a Thanksgiving so we are able to provide that.
Organizers say that this is so much more than a meal to these people in attendance.
Anyone wishing to share a hot meal Thursday is welcome to the Salvation Army on State Street. “It’s just a day with a big meal if we don’t come up here and serve”.
