Sam Bradford expected to be ready for start of camp
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport threw out the below nugget about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford this morning.
While Bradford demonstrated vast talent when healthy, OU’s all-time leading passer simply couldn’t stay on the field, as numerous injuries held him to zero complete seasons in his Rams’ career.
Bradford is coming off back-to-back torn ACLs and the Philadelphia Eagles would also like to see him perform in Chip Kelly’s system.
Bradford, acquired by the Eagles from the Rams for Nick Foles and a second-round draft pick, is due $12.985 million this year on the final year of his six-year rookie deal, which was worth $78.045 million.
It seems now that Bradford is also starting to believe his own hype. Bradford is essentially betting on himself by not signing an extension now. Bradford is expected to be the starter, but Kelly said to CSN Philly that Sanchez and Bradford are “openly competing” for the starting job. Bradford did not take part in the 11-on-11 drills during the spring organized team activities, although he did gradually increase his participation in the team 7-on-7s as the OTAs went along. That’s a rather large burden on the third-year head coach.
Had Bradford signed an extension this summer, it would likely have been at a lower value, laden with incentives, considering that Bradford hasn’t played in a regular season game since October. 2013 when he suffered the first of two torn ACLs. If that’s the case, and fans can get even a glimpse of the player we once saw put on countless Heisman-level performances at Oklahoma, both Kelly and Bradford will look like geniuses.
