Sam Smith makes history with the first ever number one Bond theme
Here is the recap: Sam Smith is poised to make history with his recently released track “Writing’s on the Wall“, which is the theme song for the latest James Bond movie “Spectre“.
‘It’s been an unforgettable experience working with Barbara [Broccoli, Bond co-producer] and Sam [Mendes, Spectre director] to become part of this British legacy.
“I had to lie through my teeth, which isn’t much fun”, Sam told Britain’s The Sun newpsaper “My lying is really good now, when you say “genuinely” people believe it”.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1, Smith called the opportunity to record the theme a “highlight” of his career. The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis wrote that it sounded “less like a Bond theme song than a latterday pop ballad – the kind of thing that X Factor contestants have a crack at”.
Former 007 Roger Moore praised the song, describing it as “haunting and wonderfully orchestrated”.
Just in case you are chomping at the bit to see the official video for Writing’s on the Wall, Sam will unveil the video at 00:07 on Monday, October 5, which is Global James Bond Day. Even Skyfall, Adele’s Oscar-winning theme for the 2012 film, peaked at number two. Barry’s preferred version was heard in the film, the first to star Timothy Dalton as Bond, while A-ha’s favourite appeared on their album “Stay On These Roads”. None has been a British chart-topper, although Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” and McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” were top 10 hits.
