Sam Smith Shames Homophobic Instagram Account Targeting LGBT Community
Sam Smith took to Instagram yesterday to remind the public that disgusting acts of homophobia are still a very real element of modern life. Sam says that while accounts like this don’t bother him, because he’s developed a “thick skin”, he wants to show the world how widespread homophobia still is.
He posted an image of the poem, adding in the caption, “This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too tick [sic] skinned when it comes to this kind of shit”.
Smith posted a screenshot of the “Gaysamsmith” account yesterday (August 12). Smith said sharing the screengrab. Speaking to The Sun, he said: “The toughest time for me was my first year in secondary school when I hadn’t come out as gay”.
However the singer also revealed that he was once attacked in London as a result of his sexuality. It was definitely homophobic, ‘ he recalled to British newspaper The Sunday.
Smith capped off his Madame Tussauds visit by having a little fun with Leonardo DiCaprio and Neil Patrick Harris, as well as getting in on Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act and having Breakfast at Tiffany’s with Audrey Hepburn.
He said: “I like the idea that there may be homophobic guys who listen to my record and they have no clue that I’m gay!”
“I got punched in my neck, just out of nowhere”.
