Sammy Watkins could be out weeks with foot injury
Bills coach Rex Ryan was asked about Watkins’ health after reports that Wakins is experiencing pain in his surgically repaired foot.
The New York Daily News first reported the news. He was cleared by doctors to return to practice on August 8, played in the Bills’ final two preseason games and caught four passes for 43 yards in Buffalo’s 13-7 season-opening loss to the Ravens in Baltimore. It’s possible, however, that Watkins could be shut down for several weeks, or possibly longer, depending on how his foot responds. Watkins, who said he met with trainers after the game, said that he was trying to be “smart about the injury” and that he is healthy.
Thursday, he and his coordinator need a bounce-back night, Taylor to justify his new rich salary, Roman to remind the National Football League why he’s still a head coaching candidate, stemming from his Super Bowl work with San Francisco. We’ve got to find a way to get better clearly.
The Bills feared Watkins might have re-broken his foot, but X-rays taken after the game were negative.
The former Clemson product recorded just four receptions for 43 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. If Tyrod can get enough time for one of his receivers to get open then that could win the game, it is just uncertain how many times the line can buy enough time. “We clearly have to get better in a hurry, which is hard to do because you’re not going to practice really”.
“I just felt like it was exhausted”, said Watkins of his foot. Last season, the Bills were one of the main reasons why the Jets missed the playoffs, as they defeated them twice.
“With these injuries they get better as you go”, he said.
But first, Ryan discussed a potential big injury in his lineup, which belong to Sammy Watkins.
With DE Sheldon Richardson returning from his one-game suspension, the Jets defensive front should be even scarier than the group that sacked Bengals QB Andy Dalton seven times on Sunday. Watkins torched Todd Bowles’ team in the Jets’ crushing Week 17 loss in Buffalo that kept them out of the playoffs last season.
