Samsung could be making its own Gorilla Glass
It will supposedly be used to protect a range of mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, and music players. The company has filed for a trademark for Turtle Glass with the relevant authority in its home country of South Korea.
Samsung Company is one of the biggest customers of Corning so far, so if it’s true that Samsung is going to start using Corning’s solution in the future, it will be interesting to know what position the maker of Gorilla Glass will be.
On the other hand, Samsung has been rumored to be readying the industry’s first handset with a foldable display, which is known as Project Valley internally.
This new move by the company is fairly surprising considering the fact that Samsung just introduced the aluminum glass design language with the Galaxy S6 a year ago . The less used Dragon trail Glass by Asahi also boasts impressive toughness.
Meanwhile, a separate report from a second Korean news site, inews24.com, says that Samsung is looking at using a magnesium alloy for the next Galaxy S phone.
Previously, Samsung temporarily closed its doors to Qualcomm’s processors in its recent flagships.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is reported to hit the market in the middle of 2016 in two variants using a Exynos SoC and another using a SD820 SoC.
Samsung have not formally found about Turtle Glass, nonetheless it is sighted in Korean government departments already.
Turtle Glass may mean what its name suggests: hard, scratch-resistant glass displays taking inspiration from turtle shells.
