Samsung Details Galaxy Note7 Smartphone & New Gear VR Headset

For the first time in the Galaxy Note series, the new version has an edge feature on both sides of the device that allows it to nicely nestle in the palm of the hand. With refined craftsmanship, premium materials and a unique, symmetrical edge design.

Koh, Dong-jin, president of Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications business, is introducing the new Galaxy Note 7, the company’s flagship large-sized smartphone, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY on Tuesday. “Powering a robust ecosystem, it is the ideal device for those who want to achieve more in life”, said Koh Dong-jin, president of mobile communications business of Samsung Electronics at the launch event.

The new Galaxy Note 7 gets a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED dual-edge curved screen which gives deeper blacks and enhanced color accuracy compared to the 5.5-inch full HD LED display of the iPhone 6S Plus.

Memory on the Note 7 is quite impressive since it’ll be external and fits a 256GB microSD, and that’s not including the built-in 64GB of storage. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless will all have pre-orders on August 3rd (tomorrow) and the phone should be in stores on or around August 19th. Samsung has added a Type C charging port and a 3500 mAh battery to the Note 7.

You will be able to pre-order yours from August 16, and so that’s when those pages above will come into their own.

Just like the Galaxy S7 Edge, the Note 7 is waterproof for about a half an hour in up to five feet of water.

Numerous specs on the Note 7 will be familiar to users of one of Samsung’s current flagships.

Boosted by robust sales of the Galaxy S7, Samsung reported a second-quarter operating profit of 8.14 trillion won (US$7.3 billion), up 18.06 percent from the same quarter previous year. This will require users to use the “Smart Select” feature through the S Pen stylus.

Other impressive new features include IP68 water resistance, HDR video streaming, pairing with the new Gear VR headset, and, of course, a sharper S Pen stylus that can be used to doodle on the device and even to create GIFs.

Some individuals might still be uncertain about upgrading from its predecessor, or are looking into the many online bargains offering the Galaxy Note 5 at a very low price.
