Samsung Electronics unveils high-end phones in search of sales boost
The main thrust of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event was to launch the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, but the company also provided some details about Samsung Pay.
Both the S6 Edge+ and Note5 have wireless charging capabilities at the fastest speeds ever supported.
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ has 16 MP rear and 5 MP front cameras, 5.1 Android Lollipop operating system. Un-carrier customers can grab the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ for $0 upfront and sweet savings with the new JUMP!
That’s where the Edge+ yields too – with the phone featuring nothing else that really differentiates it from the Edge we saw earlier this year.
The Samsung Gear S2, said to be referred to as the Orbis internally, has been the subject of much web rumour mongering over the last few months.
The moves are aimed at keeping the South Korean giant atop the global smartphone market and countering its US rival Apple, which has made gains with its large-screen iPhone 6 and 6-Plus and its tap-to-pay feature. The camera is largely the same as the one in the S6, but this time Samsung is pitching its camera as a way to get into the live-streaming world that the likes of Periscope and Meerkat have been dominating. Of course this will add a sufficient amount of bulk to your smartphone, but clearly, its the only premium keyboard solution available if you are craving for a keyboard but don’t fancy a BlackBerry smartphone.
Samsung also said its mobile payment service Samsung Pay will launch on August. 20 in South Korea and September 28 in the United States. There’s also other useful features such as NFC, MST and updated fingerprint sensor to secure transactions etc seen on the Note 5.
The phones will go on sale this month, Samsung said without specifying dates or markets.
“This is a calculated move to avoid the marketing onslaught of Apple in September and October”, Llamas stated.
Samsung added Ultra High Quality Audio to enhance its audio system.
According to The Next Web, the S6 Edge+ comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, which keeps the same curves as the first S6 Edge.
Samsung used the Thursday event to announce Samsung Pay, its entree into the mobile payments space, and Live Broadcast, its play on the live-stream craze.
Though it was one of the most active smartwatch makers in 2014, Samsung has not released a new smartwatch in more than a year.
“Unlike Apple which has accumulated 800 million payment card accounts associated with iTunes, Samsung lacks this critical element for its payment service to quickly gain traction”, he said in a note to clients.
