Samsung Galaxy S8 pre-orders start 7th April, claims Korean media
Apparently, the two handsets are going to feature 5.8 and 6.2-inch displays respectively up from the previous 5.1 and 5.7-inch displays on the S7.
Though Samsung had been talking about foldable smartphones for years now, it had not been able to present a working prototype till now, commentators point out. As per the reports, Samsung has codenamed the phablet “Baikal”. It turns out that the R&D department, which has been toying with foldable displays for a decade now, still hasn’t figured out how to make a compelling device in mass quantities, and with the desired quality. According to the patent, the secondary display turns on when the smartphone has been folded.
The main highlight of both handsets are the metal and glass bodies. The device is also expected to come along with an infinity screen which was revealed during an advert for the new AMOLED screen technology. In terms of storage, the device could mark 6GB RAM and 256GB internal memory. You should also expect a blistering Snapdragon 835 chip and a special dock that lets you use the S8 as a desktop PC.
According to speculations, the new model will feature a dual-lens camera, the home button will be gone, while the screen will be an edge-to-edge one. Reports are also saying that the release of the Galaxy Note 8 will still push through even after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
Display experts and insiders from Samsung Electronics and its display business arm Samsung Display, however, are skeptical over the release of the phone this year. Earlier in February, it was reported that the company would kick off foldable smartphone production in Q4 this year. On the other side Note, 7 has 12 megapixels rear camera and 5 megapixels front camera. The gadget might cost around $799.
The whole idea of this foldable device is that it will be in a compact state when folded, but when unfurled it will allow users to view movies and browsing in a comfortable manner.
The foldable smartphone concept is not new as LG has previously experimented with the technology for a wraparound style wristwatch-like smartphone.
