Samsung Galaxy X Foldable Phone Gets Certified in South Korea
For months, specialist Samsung news websites have been talking about patents reportedly filed by the manufacturer with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), hinting at a possible design for the firm’s future folding smartphone. Some of these reports said Samsung will unveil the Galaxy X this year, and launch it in a limited fashion to measure consumer interest in such a device. The foldable Samsung Galaxy X will actually be the first smartphone with such a flexible screen that users will be able to fold it. Some are calling the device the Samsung Galaxy X. While Samsung completely got rid of the side bezels, Apple made the smartphone forehead and chin obsolete.
Interestingly, the filing adds N0 to the model number of the phone SM-G888, which according to LetsGoDigital points towards its release in South Korea.
Naturally the Galaxy X, and likewise the Galaxy Note 9, will be something of a testbed – a proof of concept, nearly – with the really clever and insane stuff coming later.
Samsung has on many occasions demonstrated foldable or bendable displays but most of the products have been far from commercial standards.
So if you were looking to buy a Samsung device and missed Amazon’s and Flipkart’s sale this might be the right time for you. The Galaxy X has also been referred to by its code name, Project Valley. Back in July, the same device was granted Bluetooth certification by the Bluetooth SIG.
A launch in early 2018 in South Korea? The speculation arrives via The Korean Herald, which claims that Samsung has already begun research and development on the AI chips and is seeking to commercialize them “in the next few years”.
Samsung mobile chief, Koh Dong-jin has indicated that a new Galaxy Note with a bendable screen will be coming in 2018, which could be the SM-G888N0. The Galaxy X could also feature a dual-camera at the rear, and one of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors – most likely now the Snapdragon 835. Now, whether it is final one or no we aren’t sure.
