Samsung intros new Exynos 8 Octa high-end processor
According to Samsung’s press release, Exynos 8890 is processed on the 14nm FinFET LPP technology, which is the same kind of technology that Snapdragon 820 has been processed under. Happily, we now have a few new information on both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and the Samsung Exynos 8 Octa that will be the two most prominent chips in 2016’s most powerful Android phones.
The new 64-bit Exynos 8 Octa is based on Samsung’s integrated one-chip solution and holds both processor and modem in one place which improves performance and efficiency and saves much-needed space within the smartphone structure.
For a graphic-intensive 3D gaming and life-like virtual reality experiences, the Exynos 8 Octa employs ARM’s latest GPU, the Mali-T880. Rumor has it the new Exynos chip will only be included in Korean and European versions of the device, while America and China may get a Snapdragon 820-powered version instead.
Samsung says the chip will be available in late 2015, easily in time for the Galaxy S7 – which should be out around March 2016.
Samsung told us to expect a 30 per cent performance improvement and 10 percent better power efficiency compared to the Exynos 7 Octa. In case you were wondering, four of its cores are custom developed while the remaining four belong to ARM Cortex-A53.
Exynos 8 Octa integrates probably the most superior LTE Rel. 12 Cat.12/13 modem that permits most obtain velocity of as much as 600Mbps (Cat.12) and add velocity of as much as 150Mbps (Cat.13) with service aggregation.
