Samsung Opens new Silicon Valley Office
The $300 million campus, located north of downtown San Jose, houses research and development and sales operations for Samsung’s USA semiconductor business, which counts Apple, Nvidia and other companies among its customers.
Samsung has been in Silicon Valley since 1983, so they aren’t really new to the area.
Samsung officially opened the doors to its new 1.1-million-square-foot Silicon Valley offices Thursday, more than 30 years after its arrival in the San Jose tech corridor in 1983. After Intel, Samsung is the world’s biggest chip maker, so the company will be keenly looking for new related opportunities in the Silicon Valley area and beyond.
Samsung says the complex, which includes gardens and open-air spaces within the main building, has been specially designed to “increase collaboration by encouraging more spontaneous encounters between staff, while also bringing nature closer to the workplace to increase employees’ contentment and creativity”.
Samsung Electronics has opened a new headquarters for its unit Device Solutions America, in Silicon Valley, which it hopes will substantially bolster research and innovation. The office was inaugurated in a grand opening ceremony in the presence of dignitaries such as Samsung Electronics vice chairman and co-CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon; mayor of San Jose, Sam Liccardo; and the former mayor of San Jose, Chuck Reed. Each scholarship will cover tuition and living expenses for one year. In addition to opening its new state-of-the-art facility in San Jose, Samsung is dedicated to supporting the local community and helping to inspire the next generation of innovators with volunteer staff support and corporate donations.
