Samsung Pay now lets you store gift cards and buy new ones
While Samsung’s biggest rival in mobile payments, Apple Pay, does allow coupons and rewards cards, Cupertino doesn’t yet support gift cards.
It should be clear that there is no need to use a specific debit or credit card to avail of the Samsung Best Buy e-gift card promo. The company says “50 popular merchant gift cards” can be used at launch from stores including Gap, Banana Republic, Staples, GameStop, Toys R Us, and Whole Foods.
Samsung states that over the coming months, additional retailers will be added the gift card lineup.
Why this matters: This gives Samsung Pay a needed feature to stay competitive with Android Pay. “People love gift cards, but how many of us have gone to pay for something only to realize we have a gift card sitting around somewhere at home?” Drop a comment down below if you get a chance to try out Samsung Pay’s new gift card support! Not only can you purchase these digital gift cards for yourself, but you can also purchase them for friends and family.
As far as mobile payment services go, Samsung Pay is quickly shaping up as the strongest on the market. This way, one can hold a smartphone near a card reader and treat gift cards just like other Samsung Pay transactions.
The Best Buy e-gift card promo was announced as early as when the promo period started. To celebrate the expansion, Samsung is also offering the Best Buy gift card.
ALMOST ANYWHERE: Samsung Pay is compatible with the majority of existing and new terminals, including most magnetic stripe, EMV and NFC terminals. A report on TechnoBuffalo said that the South Korean giant’s mobile payment service is pretty cool, but, like other services of its kind, it only works if the consumer’s bank supports the app.
