Samsung phones reportedly catch fire in China
Samsung has told consumers who own a Note 7 to stop using them and exchange them for other phones, or for a loaner to use until Samsung can start producing Note 7s that aren’t a fire hazard.
16/09/2016: U.S. regulators have formally ordered Samsung to recall one million of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, as more reports of the device’s exploding battery come in.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Samsung last week announced a formal voluntary recall of about 1 million Galaxy Note7 smartphones, after the high-end flagship device was found to have overheated or caught fire in at least 92 incidents.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 explosion news in the tech market is roaring the world with its battery problems. That account gave no contact information for the user or details of where the person lives but showed photos of the damaged phone and its serial number. It was established in Suwon, South Korea in the year 1969 and now, it also explores the consumer electronics industry by producing computers and tablets which established a good brand name to the customers. The fault had not previously been reported in the world’s biggest smartphone market.
Samsung accounted for 8 percent of smartphone sales in China in the three months ending June 30, down slightly from the previous quarter’s 9 percent, according to Canalys.
They cited the models’ innovative features and a delay in the local launch of competitor Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 for the surge in bookings. The company has reportedly suffered a loss of $10 billion in its market value ever since the issue of faulty battery cells in Note 7 handsets came to light.
Samsung is identifying its newer, safe units are with a round sticker with a blue “S” on the top right corner of the box.
“This will make it hard to make it back to the top”, Peng said.
The recall will be complemented by a software update that will start rolling out to United Kingdom users this week, limiting the ability of the device to recharge to full capacity.
Battery supplier Amperex Technology Limited said earlier in the day it investigated the damaged Samsung phone with the South Korean smartphone maker and determined that its battery was not the direct source for the fire. Because the batteries were supplied by another manufacturer, Samsung went ahead with the launch in China on September 1.
