Samsung’s massive 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet is now official
Considering the full size iPads rock 9.7-inch displays, the fact Samsung has seen fit to double that is slightly baffling. But if Samsung intends to market it as a small, portable, personal TV as opposed to a tablet, it can easily garner the market share long dominated by tablets like iPad and small laptops.
The Samsung Galaxy View is a tablet with a whopping 18.4-inch FHD display and has been designed with a video-centric interface in mind, particularly for home entertainment.
While announcing the Samsung Galaxy View, JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business, said, “At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience”. A few of the streaming services shown in their promo ad are YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, Hulu and CNN.
Of course, the Galaxy View runs Google Android – version 5.1 – so it works with nearly any app in the Google Play Store. Just have Google Docs downloaded and a wireless keyboard and voila, you got yourself a replacement for your desktop. But “Galaxy View” is now official.
The other details include a 2,1 megapixel front-facing camera, octacore chipset, 2 gigs of RAM and 32 or 64 gigs of storage expandable with a microSD card.
In terms of a Galaxy View release date and price, we’re still waiting to hear from Samsung, but it’s safe to assume this slate won’t come cheap.
Samsung’s Galaxy View Tablet literally blurs the line between a tablet and a TV, a feat that is perhaps the next big thing.
