San Bernardino shooter was teased about beard, family lawyers say
Maria Gutierrez, 56, who lives next door to the house that was raided, said Federal Bureau of Investigation agents evacuated her and her family from their house at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday in preparation for the raid.
The posting had been removed from the social media site and it’s not clear when federal authorities obtained it.
The FBI is now investigating the fatal shooting of 14 people in California by a married couple as an “act of terrorism”.
The sick terror group has made the claim through the Aamaq news agency which supports them.
An IS-affiliated news service called Malik and Farook “supporters” of their Islamist cause, but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the attack. It has, however, urged sympathizers to carry out attacks on their own.
Islamic State said on Saturday that the couple were followers of the militant group. The couple, who dropped off their baby daughter with Farook’s mother shortly before the massacre, were dressed in military fatigues when they burst into the Inland Regional Centre wielding assault rifles and handguns.
San Bernardino: The FBI director James Comey has confirmed the agency is now treating Wednesday’s San Bernardino mass shooting as an act of terrorism, but added there was no evidence yet the two suspects were part of a terrorist cell. And Bowdich said they may have been planning an additional attack. This week’s mass shooting, he said, is “another tragic reminder that here in America, it’s way too easy for risky people to get their hands on a gun”. He said investigators were looking carefully to determine if there is an IS connection.
USA investigators had yesterday said that the Pakistani wife of the Pakistani-American man who together carried out the deadly shooting, pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Facebook. But I can tell you this.
Facebook declined to go into details about the nature of the post.
Malik had not come to the attention of authorities while living in Saudi Arabia, according to a source close to the Saudi government.
Malik was born in Pakistan and raised in Saudi Arabia.
“The family just knew her as she was caring, she was soft spoken”, said Farook family lawyer Mohammad Abuershaid at a news conference Friday.
A pledge of allegiance to ISIS isn’t necessarily a sign of a person being directly connected to ISIS. Some were by phone, some on social media. “There is no indication that they are part of a network”, he told reporters in Washington. Farook’s last communication with the contacts was months ago. They said none of his relatives had any indication either Farook or his wife held extremist views.
“We know that ISIL and other terrorist groups are actively encouraging people around the world and in our country to commit awful acts of violence, often times as lone wolf actors”, he said.
The couple did not have any trouble with the law, nor were they on any list of potentially radicalized people. About 5,000 additional rounds, 12 pipe bomb-type explosive devices and bomb-making material were found at the couple’s home.
