San Diego Chargers Give Fans a Bittersweet Ending

Either way, Sunday’s 30-14 road loss to the San Diego Chargers was not pretty.

Behind all of it was a lingering sense of surprise that the quest to replace the hulking concrete stadium, opened in 1967 and considered one of the NFL’s worst facilities, reached this point.

Overall, Gordon did not produce to the level expected of a running back selected in the first round.

“It’s going to take at least three generations for them to have a solid L.A. fan base”, Campos said.

That wasn’t true – one San Diego councilman served time after being convicted in a 2003 scandal, but none has been jailed since. The Raiders have covered five of the past six meetings and 10 of the last 13, and they will be very motivated to sweep the Chargers here.

The Chargers announced Monday that Gordon will miss the final two games with torn cartilage in his left knee.

“Tough, disappointed, frustrated, upset, mad, angry – any adjective you could think of right now”, he said.

“It’s clear the Chargers means more to this community than just wins and losses”, Rivers said after the game.

Campbell did not have an update on the four but said the preliminary indications on Pouncey, McCain (knee) and Misi (back) “didn’t sound good”.

The Chargers finally were able to score some points Sunday, after combining to score 34 points in their last 4 games, including a trio of 3 points outings versus 3 AFC West opponents. It was the first in an 18-game winning streak by the Raiders against the Chargers that carries through the first meeting of the 1977 season. The standing ovation to Philip Rivers (who doesn’t want to move his brood to Los Angeles), Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd, who have been teammates on the Chargers since 2004 (Gates played a year earlier too). If it was quarterback Phillip Rivers’ last game at the field, he made it count.

“It’ll be interesting, but I’ll say it again: those guys fought to the end last week”.

But they will try and finish strong, with two games remaining against the Raiders and Broncos.

Eventually Jones ran in to offensive guard Orlando Franklin, who stripped Franklin the ball from Jones and allowed Rivers to recover it just three yards away from the original line o scrimmage.

Wilson became the first quarterback with five straight games with three or more TD passes and zero interceptions. Mike Scifres was so-so with his punts.
