San Francisco 49ers sign wide receiver Marquise Goodwin
It is expected to be a multi-year deal, but it’s unlikely that it keeps the 49ers from continuing to pursue upgrades at the quarterback position.
New 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has managed to take at least one member of his former team’s offense along with him to the Bay Area. “I signed a two-year deal, but I was really focused on the excitement of flying out here, meeting these guys and seeing what we can do this year”. Hoyer was the Texans’ starter as they made the playoffs in 2015 and held his own for the Bears prior to breaking his arm last season, but there’s a ceiling on his talent.
According to reports, Bears back-up quarterback Brian Hoyer will be signing a contract with the San Francisco 49’ers on Thursday. Robinson now joins a mix that should offer new coach Kyle Shanahan more versatility and options than the group that struggled mightily for San Francisco in 2016. But he’s coming off his biggest season in 2016, when he had 29 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns.
The 49ers have followed up by agreeing to terms with Buffalo wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and Oakland linebacker Malcolm Smith. As of this moment, the 49ers don’t have any quarterback as Kaepernick opts out and their other quarterback is set to hit the free agency market. His decision says plenty about the positive influence Shanahan’s 49ers hire is having on this year’s free-agent class. He was drafted after running a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the 2011 combine.
In 132 career games with Washington and Indianapolis, the 30-year-old Garcon has 564 catches for 7,068 yards and 37 touchdowns. His biggest asset is his speed – in the National Football League combine, he ran a 4.27 40-yard dash, eventually being drafted by the Bills in the third round.
Juszczyk caught 37 passes last season and is a strong blocker.
