San Francisco Police Officer involved in shooting on Market Street
The shooting occurred at 12:06 p.m. on Market near Eighth streets at the height of the lunch hour.

Update: SFPD Chief Suhr has confirmed that a San Francisco police sergeant shot and killed a man today.
The area is surrounded by police tape and no pedestrian or motor vehicle traffic is being permitted through the crime scene. The worker told police that an unidentified man was throwing bottles into the street. Suhr said he was a man in his 20s.
The two sergeants located the man, talked to him and attempted to arrest and handcuff him when he began battling the sergeants.
“He’s getting my gun!” The suspect fell to the sidewalk, along with the gun he allegedly took from the officer on the ground, according to Suhr. The Suhr said two shots were fired, killing the man. Also that the sergeants involved are senior officers. He died at the scene.
Both sergeants were injured and taken to hospitals, but are listed in stable condition. Hyde Street is closed between Fulton and Grove streets, police said.
Market Street remains shut down between Seventh and Ninth streets, as is Eighth Street between Mission and Market streets.
The shooting will be investigated by police internal affairs and homicide investigators, as well as the Medical Examiner’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Citizens’ Complaints, police said.
