San Jose dog-hunt turns up missing K9 officer
The Fremont Police Department says “Niko” escaped from a yard in south San Jose at some point between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Niko is a 16-month-old dog, who disappeared from his handlers yard sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood.
UPDATE (11:44 a.m): San Jose Police has located the dog.
At just 16 months old, he’s said to be one of Fremont’s newest K9s – having been with the department for just a few weeks, according to police.
Niko is reportedly microchipped, but was not wearing his tag at the time he escaped, police said.
Police say if anyone sees the dog to not approach him, but call 911. His handlers believed his “natural instinct would be to return to his original training home of Czechoslovakia, so he is likely roaming and lost”, a department statement said.
