San Jose man still wearing handcuffs flees bail bondsman
A 29-year-old man ran away from bail bond agents while he was being booked Wednesday afternoon at Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
He was being brought in because he had failed to appear in court on charges of assault and residential burglary. Police did not detail when those alleged crimes occurred or how long they had been looking for Nghounoi.
According to police, 30-year-old David Nghounoi was able to escape from the lobby of the jail, while still in handcuffs.
A suspect who escaped from a bail bondsman and took off running in San Jose remains on the loose after police were unable to find him late Wednesday.
Peter Burnett Middle School in San Jose has been placed on lockdown while police search for a suspect.
Weger said most of the students had already left the campus when the school was placed on lockdown.
Around 2:30 p.m., a bail bondsman from an undisclosed agency was bringing Nghounoi in for booking.
San Jose police, K9s and the department’s MERGE unit went door-to-door and checked yards for several hours while they searched for Nghounoi.
Weger says he can’t remember a suspect ever escaping so close to jail. Among his distinct marks is a tattoo on the right side of his neck.
