Sanchez & Arsenal To Good For West Ham
WEST HAM United manager, Slaven Bilic, agreed with the assessment of Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, that today’s London derby clash will be a tight and intense game.
They should have doubled their lead when Oxlade-Chamberlain played Sanchez through on goal but his touch was heavy and the chance disappeared.
West Ham’s lethargic and abject display was of stark contrast to that of Arsenal, who were inspired by a sensational display from Alexis Sanchez. We are Arsenal football club and if people don’t expect us to be there or thereabouts, I think it’s a bit disrespectful.
“He likes the position. If it doesn’t work they prefer their first position”, Wenger said. “But then you can’t say that they didn’t deserve it”. The Kiwi centre-back was forced into another clearance from the same player before his low ball across goal could reach Sanchez.
“It can only give me a lot of confidence getting my first goal for West Ham and I go into every game thinking I can score and now I have got my first one, hopefully many more will follow”, Fletcher said. “He is quick to close down, he can dribble and has a short backlift, he has a killer instinct”.
Discussing his Latin forward he added: “He has again shown that South Americans are the leading strikers in the world”. And you have to acknowledge that.
But Arsenal restored their three-goal advantage moments later, Oxlade-Chamberlain rifling home from long range for his first Premier League goal since the opening day of the season.
“He’s a player that offers something special, he is one of the reasons why we were so prolific last season in front of goal, why we were so versatile, so risky, why we scored so many goals and why we finished so high”.
Arsenal were only 1-0 up at half-time despite creating a handful of chances, and were often let down by poor passing in the final third. We do not have to worry so much about it.
“But we maintained the pressure on West Ham, overall we finished in a very strong way”.
A downcast Bilic gave a frank and honest assessment of his team after the loss, which left the Hammers just one point out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The Hammers now sit just three points clear of bottom side Swansea City and the Croatian manager was hugely disappointed by his side’s capitulation at London Stadium.
For me, it took him a while to get mentally into the game.
“Arsenal are very lethal and they like to play on a big pitch”.
“Of course we are [in a relegation fight]”, Bilic explained. The players know that, but it’s not only about knowing, but sacrificing and dedication for the game. However, as they pushed for the equaliser, it was Arsenal who all but ended the match.
