Sanchez Nets Brace To Fire Arsenal Past Bournemouth
It’s clear they aren’t firing on all cylinders, but as Wenger suggested, there is no point assessing November until all of the matches have been played.
Arsenal on Sunday afternoon defeated Bournemouth 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to maintain fourth spot in the English Premier League. Arsene Wenger’s side had won in the Premier League for the first time since October 29.
Bournemouth levelled proceedings in the 23rd minute when Wilson slotted home a penalty after being bundled over by Nacho Monreal, scoring the Cherries’ first ever goal against Arsenal in the process.
Wenger said he knows keeping Sanchez is essential if Arsenal are to challenge for major silverware, even if performances like this mean he could demand a bigger salary.
Manchester United, Chelsea, City and Juventus have all been linked with Ozil and Sanchez and Gunners supporters would hate to see either player leave.
“Debuchy, he thinks it’s a severe one”, he added. I was really amazed he gave it. Benik Afobe, an Arsenal graduate now playing at No. 9 for Bournemouth, went closest to an equaliser when he stabbed a corner goalwards only to be denied by Petr Cech’s legs.
The penalty award to Bournemouth was arguably the right call but it could have been waved away like the move which saw Sanchez hit the deck on the edge of the penalty area earlier in the half.
“That’s a hard one”, he said about the first incident.
In the end, the difference between the two sides was the Gunners’ nearly exclusive reliance on Alexis Sanchez, who sometimes appeared to be working fifty percent harder than any other player on the pitch. One of them will likely be selected as right-back to face Southampton. A couple of things have gone against us.
He may have said the media will be happy if he does, but Arsenal fans will be popping the champagne if and when confirmation of their contract extensions comes in.
– Callum Wilson’s goal was Bournemouth’s first ever against Arsenal in any competition. Alexis Sanchez finished off the visitors by netting his second goal of the game in injury time.
Sanchez was also booked in the second half for a late and risky tackle on Bournemouth’s Harry Arter, but Wenger had words of praise rather than reproach for his forward. “We started well, but after they equalized we became nervous and that’s where you could see the draws played on our mind”.
“At half-time it was down to us to calm down and focus on the game we wanted to play”. The Chilean struck in either half as the hosts ran out 3-1 winners to end Arsenal’s run of three draws during a month when they notoriously struggle to pick up points.
– Only Crystal Palace (8) have scored more headed goals than Arsenal in the Premier League this season (6).
“Even when he looks dead, he’s still alive and always finds the resources to do something special”.
