Sanchez’s double for Arsenal ends brave Bournemouth’s hopes
Arsenal regained the ascendancy after the break when Monreal made amends by returning Sanchez’s pass across goal for Walcott to head his sixth league goal of the season.
Jones gave Bournemouth a penalty in the 23rd minute for Nacho Monreal’s collision with Wilson, who picked himself up to slot home his club’s first ever goal against the Gunners.
But it was not a surprise to see Sanchez bag a brace as the Chilean impressed having reverted back to the central striker’s role he has taken up for much of this season.
Wenger reserved special praise for his matchwinner, claiming: “Even when he looks dead, he’s still alive and has the resources to do something special!”
“He has that conditioning which allows him to always find an extra gear to be risky.
They are a tricky side and keep the ball well”.
Having struggled offensively in recent weeks, Sanchez inspired Arsenal to produce some scintillating attacking play and avoid a third consecutive league draw.
While Hector Bellerin penned a fresh contract last week, it is new deals for Sanchez and Mesut Ozil which Arsenal fans are waiting on.
Sanchez’s effort – even though it didn’t end up as an assist – must surely have won this round, however. How important it is, I don’t know. We will not sort it tonight.
Unbeaten since their opening day defeat to Liverpool, Arsene Wenger’s men are once again genuine title contenders as we near December. “[The media] like us to spend money, so you should be happy!”
Debuchy limped off after just 16 minutes of his first appearance for Arsenal since November 2015 and Giroud sustained a hamstring problem.
Theo Walcott also continued his impressive start to the season with a decisive header to make it two after Bournemouth had equalized through a Wilson penalty.
Walcott netted Arsenal’s crucial second against Bournemouth, settling Arsene Wenger’s “nervous” side despite a lack of sleep following 12 hours of labour with wife Melanie Slade in the early hours of Saturday morning. “I have to speak to the medical people”, Wenger said.
Bournemouth now sit tenth in the table after their impressive win away at Stoke last weekend and Eddie Howe’s side seem on their way to becoming a permanent fixture in the top flight. “We’re a football team, a high pressing team; we tried to show that today while trying to get a result, and the players did it superbly at times”. You look at the stats and whoever scores the first goal, they generally go on to win the game. The score line is hard to swallow’.
“After that we were a bit unlucky because I think there was a second penalty on Sanchez and the penalty for them is another questionable one”.
“But I think it fits well for where we are, in our early steps in the Premier League, to maintain that British core and youth, and to try and educate and develop that group for the benefit and long term of this club”.
