Sanders: Climate Change, Not Terrorism, Leading Threat
Bernie Sanders, who vowed to “rid our planet” of ISIS in his opening statement, also said at a previous debate that the greatest threat to national security is climate change. They’re going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops and you’re going to see all kinds of worldwide conflict. “And that will lead to global conflict”, stated Sanders. Instead of spending all of our time raising money, I think we should go out organizing people and getting them to unite around a progressive agenda which expands the middle class, which tells the billionaire class that they can not have it all, which says to corporate America, “You’re going to have to start paying your fair share of taxes”, which says we’re going to raise the minimum wage, we’re going to make college available to all regardless of their income, that we are going to have pay equity for women workers, that we are going to create millions of jobs rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. “So, where you have discontent, where you have instability, that’s where problems arise”. “But let me also say that now is not the time for demagoguery and fear mongering”. Martin O’Malley has made similar claims about the Islamic State. In fact, if you listen to the interview, you can hear John McCain expressing his deep, deep, deep disappointment that the president has not taken any of his advice on how to militarily kick ISIS right in the beytsim. What’s more, a Sanders aide had actively argued with the network hosting the debate, CBS, when the moderators signaled they would lead with a discussion of the terrorist strikes.
INDIANOLA, Iowa (CNN) – Bernie Sanders said Sunday in Iowa that he would support working with Russian Federation and Iran to combat the ISIS, taking a slightly more hawkish stance than he did earlier in his campaign.
So Bush says national security has to be the number 1 threat but the Pentagon is telling us that climate change is a threat to national security. “We’re not going to talk about that.’ I don’t agree with that”.
On whether or not he should be more aggressive in his campaign against Clinton, particularly around the issue of her character, as a few have suggested: “What media likes is food fight … and I think that’s sad”. He invaded Iraq and we are reaping the consequences of that war today: 6,700 dead Americans, hundreds of thousands wounded, $5 trillion spent and massive instability in the region – chaos which allowed the rise of ISIS. That was when the nation began experiencing its worst drought on record, a drought that researchers believe was exacerbated by climate change. Nina Turner will join the U.S. Senator from Vermont.
