Sanders holds New Year’s Eve rally in Iowa
Wiseman added that she’d like to see a Clinton-Sanders ticket, saying she believes they’d be a “powerhouse”.
“Right here in Iowa and a week later going to New Hampshire and then to Nevada and then to SC we have an opportunity together to say that the United States government has got to represent all of us and not just a handful of billionaires”, said Sanders.
“Whoa”, the senator from Vermont said as he took the stage Thursday evening in front of hundreds of supporters at the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel.
“This people-powered campaign is revolutionizing American politics”, Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, said in a statement Saturday. “They want to do something new, and they feel like that’s what this is”, said Sanders supporter Estonia Cornett.
“In a few hours, 2015 will be gone and 2016 will come”, he told the second group. “We have the opportunity – and you here in Iowa have an extraordinary role to play in that process – we have an opportunity to create a political revolution in America”. “We’re new parents, and Bernie is the one candidate that we really think is looking to the future and is looking to make a better world for not only us, but for our daughter and our hopefully grandchildren one day”, said supporter Andrea Petrovich.
There are lots of different ways to spend New Year’s Eve; choosing to go to a political event is a unique choice.
Sanders has struck a chord with many voters, including progressives.
“We are at a pivotal moment in American history”. The audience interrupted his remarks with cheers and applause and swarmed him for selfies after he spoke. That rally, which is also free, starts at 1 p.m. Doors open at noon.
“I lost my voice in Iowa, I’m still looking for it, in a town south of here”, Sanders said. His next scheduled appearance in the state is the Putting Families First Presidential Forum on January 9 in Des Moines.
