Sanders hypes ‘SNL’ appearance with late-night Vine post
Larry David, the Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm star, who has more recently distinguished himself as the show’s Sanders’ impersonator – for rather obvious reasons – was this week’s host. He didn’t even appear in a pre-taped sketch all about him, called “Bern Your Enthusiasm”, where David, playing Sanders, loses the Iowa caucuses by annoying just enough voters in the way only Larry David (or Bernie Sanders, or Larry David – we’re confused) can.
David, who previously played Sanders on SNL in last October, chimes in, “Sounds like socialism to me”. David asked the candidate. He reprised his Sanders impersonation this time in a pre-filmed segment, “Bern Your Enthusiasm”, which echoed David’s character in the HBO comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.
Later, Sanders stood beside David as he announced the show’s musical guest, the 1975.
What did you think of Bernie on SNL?
Sanders hinted at the appearance during Saturday’s Republican presidential debate in Manchester, New Hampshire. “Huge difference. Huge… I am Bernie Sanderswitsky, but we’re gonna change it when we get to America so it doesn’t sound quite so Jewish”.
After David’s first appearance as Sanders, when he teased him for his clothes and rough-around-the-edges look, the senator joked with reporters that he did in fact own more than one pair of underwear. With a prompt from David, that intro gave Sanders the ideal entree to deliver one of his signature stump phrases: “Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good”, he said. David hosted the show Saturday night. Bernie Sanders (Larry David) keeps finding ways to upset voters (Leslie Jones, Aidy Bryant) in Iowa.
He returns to his campaign headquarters where he’s berated by his advisor-and nemesis-Susie, played by Cecily Strong (doing an awesome Susie Essman impression).
“I am Bernie Sanderswitzky”, he continues.
