Sanders picks up another union endorsement
Sanders, who is the main challenger to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, tied Trump’s comments and other anti-Muslim rhetoric to a spike in attacks on the Muslim community in the U.S.
Bernie Sanders’ 2016 Democratic presidential campaign announced Thursday that it has raised more than $3 million this week as part of a push to bring in more than 2 million total donations. Bernie Sanders says GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is among “demagogues” who are attempting to exploit divisions among religion, race and national origin. The organization’s former president, Larry Cohen, has been an unpaid labor adviser to Sanders’ campaign and the CWA has been a vocal opponent of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement, which Sanders has assailed as detrimental to middle-class jobs and wages.
The endorsement by the communication workers is the third national endorsement for Sanders, he has earlier received the support of the American Postal Workers Union in November and National Nurses United in August.
The union is due to announce its decision on Thursday. With 700,000 members, the Communications Workers of America is the largest union to endorse the Vermont senator. The group endorsed President Barack Obama in 2008 and again during his re-election campaign. On the Campaigns Twitter page, the said “with just two weeks before the final FEC fundraising deadline of the year, we’ve set a goal that will shock the political elite and billionaire class of this country”.
