Sanders pushes new ad on Goldman Sachs’ role in economy
Four days before the Iowa caucuses, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign has released a doctor’s letter declaring Sander “in overall very good health”.
Bernie Sanders brought out some star power on the campaign trail Thursday morning in an appearance with actor Justin Long.
“Gender is not what’s important”, she told a crowd of more than a thousand. “It’s a cynical political ploy”.
She also took a subtle jab at Sanders’ political rival Hillary Clinton and her late-to-the-game record on LGBT rights.
“I don’t want to jump the gun and create more problems for everybody trying to get this worked out, so we can all come to agreement that the voters of New Hampshire and America deserve to see us, you know, debating before the New Hampshire primary”, Clinton said.
In recent campaign stops, Sanders has chided Clinton, a former senator who represented NY, for accepting more than $600,000 in speaking fees from investment firm Goldman Sachs in the run-up to launching her presidential bid.
The race between Clinton and Sanders, 74, has tightened in recent weeks, and polls show the two in a statistical dead heat for the Iowa caucus on February 1.
Turnout is critical to Iowa caucuses success, but it may be even more so to Sanders, who is popular with people who fit the profile of first-time caucusgoers: young people and those who are turned off by politics and the political process. “If the turnout is not large, we’re going to be struggling”. Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said the campaign reminded staffers it was inappropriate “and that they should not do it again”.
The letter notes that Sanders has, over the years, been treated for conditions ranging from gout to hypothyroidism to diverticulitis. He underwent hernia surgery earlier this year.

The letter, from Doctor Brian Monahan, Congress’ attending physician, states that Sanders’ last physical was “normal”.
Politicopoints out that Bernie, who will be 75 on inauguration day, would be the oldest person elected to the presidency. But!
A 16-year-old female stood up to complain she hasn’t had any formal sex education in her school and argued that an abstinence-only approach was ineffective.
“‘There’s a number of issues where she has come around but she very clearly equivocated or was not there in the beginning”, Sarandon says.
