Sanderson Farms Recalling a Half-Million Pounds of Chicken

The company, headquartered in Laurel, Miss., identified all of the possibly-contaminated chicken and notified customers to hold and return the products.
The products involved in the recall were produced at the Hazlehurst, Mississippi, plant on September 17 and 18, 2015.
“YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST BUTTERFLIES WITH RIB MEAT” with case code 45015. These items were shipped to processing facilities in Georgia.
The FSIS adds in their press release that all the products being recalled are in the 70-lbs case, plus the 1800-lb case of the “FRESH YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS BREAST FRAMES”.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Federal authorities, as well as a customer who purchased some of the food, tested the chicken and found “metal fragments” among the meat, causing 554,090 pounds of chicken products to be immediately recalled, the Consumerist reported. Health officials also advised that anyone concerned about injury or illness should seek medical attention.
The USDA has classified the recall of the chicken products as a Class I Recall.
