Sandy Hook truther arrested for harrassing victim’s family
Police said Matthew Mills, 32, shoved a photo of Soto in front of Jillian Soto’s face at the third annual Vicki Soto 5K in CT on Saturday, before arguing the Sandy Hook tragedy never happened.
After the event, Mills approached a few family members and made statement that the Newtown school shooting was staged and part of a conspiracy, according to a news release from police. When police arrived, he ran off before being captured, but was eventually arrested on charges of interfering with police and second-degree breach of peace, the site reports.
Mills told the Daily News he attended the event to “politely” ask the family of the former teacher.
Vicky Soto is credited with helping a few members of her first-grade class escape the shooting that left 20 students and six adult staff members dead. (Snopes has a handy rundown of the specifics of this particular brand of bullshit, as do thousands of wild-eyed YouTube videos with descriptions in ALL CAPS WITH MANY EXCLAMATION MARKS!!) They are garbage and bad, and everyone involved should feel bad.
The conspiracy theorist said he wanted to know whether an old photo of Soto and her sisters sitting on rocks had been Photoshopped.
Mills posted a $10,000 dollar bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 17. There are shootings all the time with no conspiracies related to them.
In 2014, Mills was also arrested for interrupting a press conference after the Super Bowl to spread his truthiness about 9/11.
