Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani’s driver taken to Raigad forest

Khanna was arrested in Kolkata the next day.

Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai, the three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case are to be produced before the court on Monday. As investigators were making strong into the mystery of the death of the 24-year-old, a complex web of lies and relationships unraveled and it showed that Sheena was Indrani’s daughter and not sister as maintained earlier. Das will be approached to ascertain Sheena’s parentage.

They said they have taken possession of Khanna’s passport, laptop and mobile phone and sought his custody on the ground that a detailed probe is required in the case.

However, he said he only assisted Indrani as she had promised to help him financially, as per PTI.

Peter Mukherjea was also questioned separately in connection with the murder case.

But other media have quoted police sources saying that the alleged motive may not have been a family “honour killing“, but a financial dispute or a threat by Miss Bora to reveal to her mother’s high-flying friends that she was her daughter, not her sister.

There are still more angles that need probing, including who was the unknown caller who tipped off Mumbai Police some time ago about the Sheena murder.

Now, police are pinning hopes on the outcome of the forensic and DNA test reports of the victim and the accused which are expected by next week.

Miss Bora’s former lover Rahul Mukerjea has also been questioned twice by police this week.

An affidavit sworn-in in 1992 by Indrani also confirms that she was married to Sidhartha and the two separated in 1989. But the section of officers feels that the visit and Indrani’s attitude are linked. Mekhail was offered a drink that was spiked but Mekhail got wary of the duo and managed to escape.

Mikhail said he had regained consciousness and fled the hotel and left Mumbai for Guwahati.

Staff at the Dadar shop from where the suitcases were reportedly purchased by Rai have been recorded. “We have asked them to try look for a bill”, a source said.

On Sunday, the Mumbai Police took Khanna and Rai to the crime spot at Dagode, in the forests near Pen in adjoining Raigad district in an attempt to recreate the entire crime scene. Later, Sheena was strangulated in the vehicle and her body taken to the isolated spot near Pen. Whether there is a substantial change in her mood is not clear, although some officers said she had been showing more aggression of late.

After the police submitted the status report, the court extended the police custody of the three accused till September 5. The three are in police custody and are being interrogated.
