Santa Cruz Sentinel: Earnhardt wins at Daytona; crash mars finish
A stunned Earnhardt seemed speechless as he crossed the finish line.
As a result of the scary crash, 13 fans were examined and eight declined to be treated, according to US Today.
The crew members quickly waved to alert that Dillon was fine, and the grandson of team owner Richard Childress ultimately climbed from the vehicle and raised his arms in the air. Dillon walked away from the crash.
Even so, stock-car racing was clearly shaken.
“I’m really proud of the fact that the fence worked”, said Chitwood. “You don’t want to see anybody get hurt”.
Earnhardt was upset, too. Dillon was not injured.
“That was real frightening”. Following his victory, Earnhardt said the crash was “terrifying to watch”.
“You think about the auto getting that high, what has it done and is there any danger to the spectators”, said Earnhardt.
“It’s remarkable. I mean, the auto is ripped in half, the front snout’s gone, the engine’s laying out there”, Johnson said. I believe that we have something that races really well. “Keep the cars on the ground, slow us down would be the only way to do it, I would say”. He was traveling at a speed around 200 miles per hour when his accident occurred.
“As I came round that last lap I was welling up seeing all those people on their feet”, Hamilton said.
“I mean, racing doesn’t matter any more”.
Denny Hamlin appeared to get backed up into Kevin Harvick.
When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
The race began at approximately 8:45 p.m. Pacific time and ended after The Bulletin’s press deadline.
Earnhardt, who started on the pole, won for the second time this season.
CHICAGO (AP) -Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale tries to set a major league record by striking out at least 10 batters in his ninth straight start.
There were a few crashes considered “big” during Monday morning’s Coke Zero 400, but the one that gashed the field just after Lap 100 consumed Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola, Kyle Larson and Martin Truex Jr.
Mulitple cars, including David Gilliland (38), Sam Hornish Jr. He drove up across the track, collecting another five cars in the pileup. The three-time NSCS champion ranks 26th in the standings, 130 points behind Aric Almirola for the final spot on the current Chase Grid.
Sam Hornish Jr. and Jamie McMurray brought out the final official caution with a bump that sent Hornish sliding through the infield grass on the backstretch. There were times in the race when Hendrick cars occupied the top-four spots in the running order before Kasey Kahne was involved in an on-track incident on lap 105. It also left everyone else fighting for second. His only suggestion was to stop selling tickets at the lower level near the start-finish line.
“It scared the shit out of me”, Earnhardt said. “He had just jacked up”. He’s trying to help, but it just wrecked a bunch of stuff. For the purposes of this slide, we look at the ones that merely took the bite out of some drivers’ chances. “We all have wins, so at some point, you have to hit the concede button”.
Earnhardt continued to inquire about Dillon, who earned his first career win at Daytona in Friday night’s Xfinity Series race and has been close with the Earnhardt family his entire life.
“This is an opportunity for NASCAR Nation to demonstrate its sense of mutual respect and acceptance for all who attend our events”, it said. “If I got shoved out of the lead, I knew I could get back up there”. “I hate that all happened, but just at the end of the race, it becomes pretty aggressive”.
