Santorum can’t name one Rubio accomplishment in the Senate
Senator Rand Paul suspended his USA presidential campaign Wednesday after a poor showing in Iowa, while Rick Santorum, who won the coveted state in 2012 but gained no traction this year, is also reportedly dropping out.
“I would just say there’s a guy who’s been able to, number one, win a tough election in Florida and pull people together form a variety of different spots”, Santorum said. “He has been a good friend to me in Pennsylvania for many years, and I am sure he will continue to do great things in the future”.
Senator Toomey believes that Rubio will do well in Pennsylvania for several reasons.
Thanks for standing with me all of these years.
It was an end long in the making for Paul, who had launched his presidential candidacy determined to improve the Republican party’s appeal with younger voters and to upend the way Washington works.
Santorum, on the other hand was willing to endorse Marco Rubio for the nomination, saying the senator “is in a better position to do well in this race”.
“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski called the exchange with Santorum “disturbing”. That’s certainly the case for the third-place finisher in Iowa, Sen.
“He spent four years in the United States Senate being frustrated like everybody else”, he said.
Eventually, however, Santorum did offer an example of a Rubio achievement, albeit a vague one.
Eventually, Santorum recalled a recent effort to go “after the insurance companies in the most recent omnibus” after calling Scarborough’s line of questioning “a bogus argument”.
He also mentioned Mr Rubio’s fight to stop bailing out insurance companies. “Again, he was on the campaign trail and accomplished that”.
Yet as he readies a second White House run, Santorum may struggle even to qualify for the debate stage in 2016. The aide had not yet seen the interview.
“We decided that we could be better advocates in supporting someone who shared [our] values and will do better in this race”, Santorum told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News.
He, too, was asked about the qualifications of Rubio, whom he’s now targeting in the day leading up to New Hampshire.
About 12 hours after he dropped out of the Republican presidential race and backed Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum flopped Thursday in his first big assignment as a campaign surrogate.
Santorum was uniquely ill-suited to make a promise-not-experience case for Rubio. I think he’s going to be a really strong leader.
