Sarah Palin jumps into 2016 race, endorses Donald Trump
I hope you’re right, and that she endorses Donald Trump today for President.
News of the arrest came as Sarah Palin, one-time Republican vice presidential nominee, announced her endorsement of 2016 candidate Donald Trump.
Police in Alaska said 26-year-old Track Palin was arrested for punching and kicking his girlfriend in an incident in which she reportedly feared he would shoot himself with an AR-15 assault rifle.
Trump said he was “greatly honored” to have her backing, even though past elections have shown the name recognition she acquired in the 2008 race has only marginally boosted her fellow Republicans.
In recent months, Palin has been complimentary about the billionaire tycoon as well as Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Trump’s main rival. At a press conference in Iowa hours before the rally, Trump declined to confirm or deny whether it was Palin.
The former Alaska governor looked ready to leap back into the fray as she shared the stage with Trump last night, giving a rousing speech that seems like she’s looking for redemption for 2008. John McCain made her his vice presidential pick for his failed presidential campaign.
Palin, who is to appear alongside Trump at a rally on the Iowa State University campus in Ames late Tuesday afternoon, could amplify the news media-circus aspects of Trump’s candidacy: Like him, she is a reality-TV star accustomed to playing to the cameras and often accused of emphasizing flash over substance. She said Palin had punched her in the face and that she had curled up in the foetal position because she did not know what else he would do.
Those comments prompted Palin’s daughter to pen a bitter blog post in which she criticized Cruz for his “arrogance” in stating that her mother’s endorsement might somehow harm her conservative credentials. “In fact, It’s time to drill, baby, drill down and hold these folks accountable and we need to stop the self-sabotage and elect a new and independent candidate who represents that”. “Regardless of what she does in 2016, I will always be a big fan”. “Interfered with her ability to report a crime of domestic violence and possessed a firearm while intoxicated”.
Current polls give Trump a lead of 13 points over Cruz, with about 33 percent of Republican voters nationally expressing support for his candidacy, with Cruz next best on 20 percent – the biggest gap of the campaign so far. Aissa Wayne said her father would have backed Mr Trump, saying the businessman was “strong like John Wayne”.
