Sarah Silverman to ‘Bernie or Bust’: ‘You’re Being Ridiculous’
Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., and comedian Sarah Silverman speak during the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Monday, July 25, 2016.
Clinton is expected to formally secure the nomination in a roll call vote of the states Tuesday afternoon.
“And Bernie’s already succeeded in so many ways”.
“As some of you may know, I support Bernie Sanders and the movement behind him”, Silverman told the cheering audience.
I have mixed feelings about people shouting in a hall, but what was really ridiculous was that as I flipped from network to network, none seems to want to tell me what it was the delegates were chanting. “Donald Trump presidency is a question mark, Clinton’s would be scary”, he said.
And that’s coming from a self-described “Bernie or Bust girl”.
Sanders supporters including some of his almost 1,900 delegates had been loudly booing and jeering throughout the convention’s opening day as speakers declared their support for the presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Speakers in the convention’s first hours struggled to carry out business as angry Sanders supporters roared their disapproval, drawing a deafening response from Clinton delegates. That was at a time when it was not popular to support gay marriage.
“I mean, come on”. Julian Assange accused the Democratic National Committee of “naked conspiracies” against Bernie Sanders. Party unity was both a major theme and a task at hand for Democrats Monday. And I’m very glad that Hillary has vowed to overturn it.
“They’re not necessarily party people like myself, so they haven’t been involved in political processes. They have a lot of the same values”, she said. With the recent hacking of emails that showed the unethical workings of the Democratic Party against the Sanders campaign, the tensions within the party was palpable. Al Franken of Minnesota, a former and sometimes current comedian, reassured parents that an “8-year-old kid can teach a 4-year-old kid how to use a microwave oven” – reason enough for parents to neglect their kids and canvass for Clinton.
“The DNC rigged the election. It’s over. Bernie Sanders says we need to stay united and I’m going to follow Bernie Sanders’ lead”.
