Saturday letters: Jimmy Carter, Planned Parenthood, pet waste
In discussions with the New York Times, Carter’s aides and advisers said they expect the former president to face his diagnosis with the same determination as he brought to the presidency, as well as his life afterwards.
He is being treated at Emory in Atlanta.
Carter, the 39th president of the United States, is known for his philanthropic efforts. It is not common to treat cancer which has been spread in the liver.
“Given the president’s age, any treatments, their potential and their impacts, will undoubtedly be discussed carefully with him and his family”, Lichtenfeld said.
The key to informed decision-making is to understand the patient’s goals, said Dr. Lodovico Balducci, a specialist on treating cancer in the elderly at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. “If chemo is considered it would need to take into account his age”, Mayer said.
Carter gave his usual Sunday school lesson August. 2, the day before his liver surgery, and is still scheduled to teach eight more classes through October, said Jeremy Shoulta, the pastor at Carter’s Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains. “If he tolerated liver surgery, I imagine he has a relatively good tolerance” to other treatments that might be tried. The liver is often a place where cancer spreads and less commonly is the primary source of it. It said further information will be provided when more facts are known, “possibly next week”.
Despite remaining active through the years, Carter’s health has recently become the subject of speculation.
Carter announced he has been diagnosed with cancer in a brief statement issued Wednesday.
Previously, Carter had lost his father, brother and two sisters with the same means of disease. Jill Stuckey, a close family friend, said the real challenge would be how to slow down Carter on his activities.
The first step is for doctors to pinpoint where the cancer started, and exactly where it has spread in the body, according to Waterbury Republican American.
An Emory spokesman declined comment Wednesday.
There are few things Jimmy Carter has not accomplished since leaving Washington D.C.
“Michelle and I send our best wishes to President Carter for a fast and full recovery”.
” combined with the remainder of America, we’re rooting for you, and Jimmy, youare as tough because they come”, Obama stated in a declaration.
Vice President Joe Biden said he was praying for Carter, who is “a great man, always upbeat and optimistic”.
