Saturday temp sets record high
The temperature broke records Sunday reaching 69 degrees in most areas and people were pretty happy about it. At parks around Oak Hill you could find plenty of people enjoying the sunshine.
National Weather Service meteorologist Deb Elliott says the 57 degrees reported at 10 a.m. Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport is only three degrees off the record 60 degrees for December 13 that was set in 1881.
According to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, the high temperatures may extend past the weekend.
In Trenton, the high temperature reached 68 degrees on Saturday. The record for today was 87 degrees, set in 1920.
The mean temperature for NY on December 13 is 38 degrees F, with the highest previous recorded temperature for the day at 64 degrees F in 1923.
The warmth has been so intense, some cities in the Midwest and northeast have set daily record highs during the morning hours, according to the Weather Channel.
Around the United States capital, two local airports hit new record highs, and the third tied its historic high. The record, achieved December 1, 2006, is 71 degrees.
But don’t put away the jackets just yet: Rain and wind gusts of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected this afternoon, so make sure those holiday decorations are secure.
