Saudi Arabia says Trump visit to bolster security, trade ties
The speech on combating radical Islam is to be given to around 50 Muslim leaders during the President’s first official visit to Saudi Arabia.
The foreign minister confirmed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to increase cooperation with countries countering ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
His response to a reporter’s question came at the end of a brief appearance with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra at the State Department, and after Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to provide US lawmakers with “a record” of the Trump’s Oval Office meeting with Russian officials.
Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia will reinforce the “strategic partnership” between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. while boosting their joint fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, the kingdom’s foreign minister has said. Trump and many officials in his administration agree that the nuclear deal is badly-drawn up and that Iran is playing a very unsafe role in the Syrian civil war. Obama’s overemphasis on the Iran negotiations and nuclear deal “made the Gulf feel sidelined by that priority”.
We believe the issues raised by the Comey memos are so vital that the public should have access to them without delay.
However, she would not say who that person is, but told Cuomo that he “would know his name and think he was well-qualified”.
Saudi Arabia is making every effort to dazzle and impress President Donald Trump on his first overseas trip, seizing on the visit to cement itself as a major player on the world stage and shove aside rival Iran. “We look at actions”, said Jubeir, repeating allegations about Iran’s “aggressive” behaviour in the Middle East.
No one has specified whether Keith’s concert was meant to take place the same weekend that Trump was in Saudi Arabia, but a spokesperson for the White House recently said they didn’t know anything about Keith’s concert and that the singer would not be traveling with Trump, according to The Washington Post.
“If he doesn’t, the Saudis will have gotten the better deal”, McCants said. It is at this event where Trump is scheduled to make his address.
Still, Trump hasn’t been eager to seize the opportunity.
U.S. allies in Israel and Saudi Arabia often expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Obama administration’s foreign policy, and outreach to Iran, capped by the controversial nuclear deal. He said he would give the Federal Bureau of Investigation a week and then “if we need a subpoena, we’ll do it”.
US Navy commanders have accused Iran of jeopardizing worldwide navigation by “harassing” warships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. But Abrams was less confident about the possibility of such a confrontation.
“We are witnessing now a change in the tone, change in policy” from Trump, he said.
But not everyone is excited about Trump’s visit. Abrams described a sense of glee among Gulf partners at Trump’s more robust role and military coordination with them. Comey said he replied that “I agree he is a good guy” but said nothing to Trump about limiting the investigation. “I hope you can let this go”, the memo reportedly quotes Trump as saying. “The solution is there, and the modalities and general configuration are there”. But the swirling questions about his conduct were clearly on his mind when he told graduates at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in CT that “no politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly”. For Mr Trump, his goals are to hasten the defeat of ISIL and to contain Iran and reverse its regional gains, while working with traditional Arab partners in order to reduce USA commitments and share more of the burden for regional security.
Abrams said the regional turmoil, Israel’s and Jordan’s security, and the looming succession battle within the Palestinian Authority all point to continued stalemate between the Israelis and Palestinians.
