Oklahoma’s annual sales tax holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. Friday and end at midnight Sunday.

Floridians get to enjoy 10 days of tax free shopping on school supplies starting Friday.

Eligible items that customers purchase during the holiday with use of a rain check qualify for the exemption regardless of when the rain check was issued.

The sales tax holiday applies only to the four percent state sales tax.

College students and their families, expect to spend 23 percent more than last year, and plan on spending an average of $126 on dorm and apartment furnishings., the survey said.

Emergency preparedness items including batteries, flashlights, cell phone chargers, first-aid kits and bottled water will be tax exempt so long as each unit normally sells for $60 or less.

River Valley Mall Marketing Director Brenda Miller said she thinks people will take advantage of the tax holiday. Missouri eliminates the 4.225-percent state tax on up to ,500 spent on personal computers and peripherals.

School supplies qualifying as tax-free must cost under $100 each.

“Sales-tax holidays do not promote economic growth or significantly increase consumer purchases”, the report says.

The state timed the Tax Holiday to coincide with back to school savings but keep in mind electronics are on the list too.
